How the grades were chosen

S through D follow the attack numbers read from equipment panels: 52,890, 38,470, 21,150, about 11,200, and about 8,000. Luck is noted but does not change the order. Quest cost is in the recommendation, not averaged into the letter. Rods with no published attack are excluded rather than guessed.

S tier

rodsDread Fish RodEditorial rank by published attack. A panel read 52,890 attack and +35 luck, the highest pair on record. This is not an official tier.

Player decision Chase it when you can already fish Fossil Island and can afford to wait on a Mythical catch. It is a poor first goal.

A tier

rodsZen Staff RodEditorial rank by published attack. Panels agree on 38,470 attack and +30 luck. The gap to Dread Fish Rod is large, and the quest is repeatable effort rather than a Mythical drop.

Player decision Best published target if you already own Taiji Hooking Art V2. A Legendary finished with another skill does not count.

B tier

rodsBamboo RodEditorial rank by published attack. 21,150 attack and +25 luck, about double the Crimson Bead Rod and well below the Zen Staff Rod.

Player decision Craft it before you commit to Fossil Island quests. The fragment trip sends you back to Jungle Island.

C tier

rodsCrimson Bead RodEditorial rank by published attack. About 11,200 attack and +22 luck. The quest uses a rod and Coins you already need for Snow Island.

Player decision Do it if the Bamboo quest on your screen requires it, or if 100 easy catches are faster than waiting on fragments. It is not the island's best rod.

D tier

rodsLegacy RodEditorial rank by published attack among rods that have a number. About 8,000 attack for 3,000,000 Coins. Early shop rods have no published attack, so they are not ranked below this.

Player decision Buy it when you are on Snow Island and ready to start the Crimson Bead catches. Do not skip straight to a Fossil quest rod with a weaker stick if your catches are stalling.

Fishing Master ranking questions

Is this the official best rod?

No. Dread Fish Rod is S because 52,890 is the highest attack that was shown. A later update could add a stronger rod. The September 25 clip called Dread the strongest in that release only.
